For those who wish to maintain the professional recognition that being a "Registered PRINCE2 Practitioner" brings, you need to go through a renewal process. From 1 January 2018 that process has been changed by the PRINCE2 IP owner AXELOS (this also coincides with the release of the 2017 version of PRINCE2). If you were certified in PRINCE2 versions prior to 2017 you need to sit, and pass, the full Practitioner exam (once your current certification has expired). Once you are 2017 certified you need to be re-certified every 3 years either by resitting the full exam again or through the new membership scheme provided by AXELOS.
Project Results Approach to Re-Registration
Project Results is unique in that we provide a specific classroom PRINCE2 Practitioner Re-Registration course. The standard approach is for candidates to re-do the Practitioner course or to complete the full Foundation and Practitioner training. We believe that this is less than ideal for the following reasons:-
Our specific PRINCE2 Practitioner Re-Registration classroom course does however provide an optimal approach to maintaining this professional recognition.
- As you already know PRINCE2 you don't need to learn it again. You will have forgotten some things and they will need to be refreshed, but you won't need to start from scratch.
- You will need to come up to speed with the 2017 version of PRINCE2. While there have been changes it is not a complete rewrite. Therefore you will only need to know about the differences.
- You will need to practice the Practitioner exam and become familiar with the new exam format. You won't need to be taught the application of PRINCE2 because you will already be doing that.
Our specific PRINCE2 Practitioner Re-Registration classroom course does however provide an optimal approach to maintaining this professional recognition.
Timing
You can renew at any time. You simply cannot call yourself a "Registered PRINCE2 Practitioner" after the expiry of your certification. This differs from PMP/CAPM where you need to renew before the expiry date or go back to the beginning. So just to clarify, the certification period is 3 years if certified under PRINCE2 2017 and 5 years if certified prior to that.
AXELOS Membership
Once you have become a PRINCE2 Practitioner under the 2017 version you can either renew by resitting the full exam or by joining the new AXELOS membership scheme. The AXELOS membership scheme is free for the first year (after gaining Practitioner certification from PRINCE2 2017 onwards) and will cost £50 (pounds sterling) per year after that. You need to submit details of professional activities and development during this time with a requirement of 20 hours minimum each year. If you follow this process you will automatically become
e-registered as a PRINCE2 Practitioner a the end of the 3 years. For more details on this see Maintaining your PRINCE2 2017 Practitioner Certification - Project Management, AXELOS Membership and Continuing Professional Development.

Course Format - Classroom
The following is the format for the classroom option which is 2 days long and split over 2 weeks. We have an online option as well with the details further down in this document.
Pre-course
Once you register you are given access to our online Foundation course material. This allows you to refresh yourself on PRINCE2 and be ready for day 1.
Day 1
Day 1 refreshes you in the PRINCE2 curriculum and brings you up to speed with the changes in PRINCE2 2017. It will be action packed because we are condensing 2.75 days of the Foundation course into 1 day. This is achievable because we are simply refreshing what you learnt when you studied for Foundation and Practitioner.
Between Day 1 and 2
At the end of Day 1 we take you through Practitioner exam techniques. Between days 1 and 2 you will complete the AXELOS sample exams. There are two sample exams in total and each has a duration of 2.5 hours. So you can expect to spend at least 5 hours on this plus more time for revision. For those who want more Geoff has produced a large collection of Practitioner style exam questions as part of our Practitioner course and we also allow you access to these. The format of the Practitioner exam has been revised from PRINCE2 2017 and we will bring you up to date with that.
Day 2
Day 2 is split in half. Over the first half we review your exam practice, focus on questions and curriculum areas you are unsure of. The 2.5 hour exam is sat in the afternoon and you receive your result in 2-3 days.
What is included
,Included is:-
- Full online Foundation course material,
- Details of the changes in PRINCE2 2017,
- Our unique quick reference guide,
- Full Practitioner APMG sample exams,
- Inspiring Projects sample exams (as required),
- Exam fees,
- Post course access to our unique set of templates and guides.
Advantages of approach
Our experience is that the 2 day format is a good trade off of time, cost and outcomes. As stated above other providers may put you on longer courses but we think this is unnecessary. As a person who has previously passed Practitioner we expect you to have little trouble refreshing yourself on PRINCE2, coming up to speed with the 2017 version and passing the exam.
