PRINCE2 Agile™ Overview

To give an overview of PRINCE2 Agile we have to ask and answer a few questions such as:-
  • Why would you want to integrate PRINCE2 and Agile?  
  • Are they diametrically opposed to each other?  
  • Why do people think this is a good idea?  
We will answer these questions to give you an understanding of the power and benefits of PRINCE2 Agile.  But first we need a quick overview of PRINCE2 and Agile.

PRINCE2 Overview

​​Over the past 2 decades PRINCE2® (PRojects IN Controlled Environments version 2) has been developed by the UK Government and internationally as a best practice project mana​gement method.
 PRINCE2 provides you with a complete end to end process and the latest version recognises scaling for the needs of your project or organisation.  PRINCE2 is a Methodology which means it provides you with guidance on the steps you need to take to run a project and the things you need to be aware of and pay attention to.  It is very strong on the concepts of projects sitting under a governance and control framework and being underpinned by a business case.  This is to ensure that projects deliver what the sponsoring organisation wants in a way which that sponsoring organisation is comfortable with.  Conversely it does not have all of the how to of project management and recognises the need to integrate with industry specific delivery methods.  This is where agile comes in.

Agile Overview

Agile is a group of methods in which requirements and solutions evolve through collaboration between self-organizing,cross-functional teams. It promotes adaptive planning, evolutionary development, early delivery, continuous improvement, and encourages rapid and flexible response to change.  It was originally conceived for software developments but has subsequently been extended to other types of projects.
