PRINCE2 Foundation and Practitioner Overview

Overview

Over the past 2 decades PRINCE2® (PRojects IN Controlled Environments version 2) has been developed by the UK Government and internationally as the best practice project management method.  PRINCE2 provides you with a complete set end to end process and the latest version recognises scaling for the needs of your project or organisation.

Training is based upon "Managing Successful Projects with PRINCE2 - 2009" manual.  This is an easy to read guide which will become your future project management reference.

PRINCE2 is based on Principles (project management truths), Themes (the things you focus on) and Processes (project steps - see the diagram above and to find out more please move to our PRINCE2 Principles, Themes and Processes page).  We take you through these to give you a complete picture of the project management process.  PRINCE2 is becoming the de-facto standard in New Zealand and Australia.

Course Components

The course is broken into two components.  PRINCE2 Foundation and PRINCE 2 Practitioner.  The Foundation course gives you a complete overview of the method and passing the exam will give you the Foundation qualification.  The Practitioner course gives you a more indepth application of the method and upon passing the exam you can call yourself a "PRINCE2 Registered Practitioner".

Very Best PRINCE2 Training

The Project Results approach does not just focus on passing the exams but also on applying PRINCE2 after course completion.  Paul Sutton, from Project Results uses many practical examples from his 20 years of experience as a hands-on project manager and adjusts the course delivery to meet the needs of the attendees.  Along with being a highly experienced Project and Programme Manager has an active consulting and coaching practice which allows him to be current with real life needs.

This practical focus is not at the expense of pass rates which are well above the industry average.  To find out more about Paul and how he delivers the very best training please see the Paul Sutton profile page.

Course timing

The Foundation course is  3 days long with Practitioner being another 2 days.  APMG, who is the certification body, requires that Foundation certification is achieved before the Practitioner exam can be sat.  You can choose to do Foundation now and Practitioner later or both at the same time.  The decision depends upon your needs, budget and time availability.  We are more than happy to discuss the options with you.

Course Structure and Content

Foundation and/or Practitioner

Foundation Structure

Once you register for the course you are sent the “Managing Successful Projects with PRINCE2” manual and pre-course exercises.  At least 10 hours work prior to the course is highly recommended.

The Foundation component gives you the full PRINCE2 curriculum and is delivered through presentations, discussions, exercises and exam practice.  The course is intensive, running from 8:30 to 5:00 with a recommended additional 2 hours of exam practice each evening.

At the end of the 3rd day participants sit a 1 hour Foundation exam, following which you are given your preliminary result.  The exam is closed book and with 75 questions.  You must correctly answer 50% to pass. Project Results has around a 99% pass rate (international average is 96%).
